Concerned, Seeking Feedback Please

(this was also posted in the Hodgkins Lymphoma forum)

I hope it is okay for me to post a question not being dxd. Given the odd collection of my symptoms, when I have been researching it keeps coming back to lymphoma. I've had a WEIRD 5 weeks and, being uninsured, am trying to figure out which way to have the doctors steer the dx process. I don't want to pay for a bunch of tests if, say a biopsy, would do the trick. They are already discussing a biopsy of the breast lump, so should I also request a lymph node biopsy as well? Also what type of 'scan' would give the best result? (Female, 37) I'm including a history I've typed up to keep track of everything for the drs. Thanks! =) (Also, please feel free to let me know what your impression of my symptoms is.)

@ 12/30/11:
Symptoms began of a severe head cold. Plus lethargy/fatigue, chest pressure/hard time breathing (more than my normal occasional asthma stuff), SEVERE itching over entire body, body aches. Had husband do head-to-toe check for rashes or bites, none found. Changed shampoo, soap, rewashed all linens and clothes.

@ 1/13/12:
Realized this was more than normal head cold, feared sinus infection and worried about asthma. Went to hospital, diagnosed with acute sinusitis and treated with Codeine Syrup, Amoxicillin, and Albuterol (inhaler PRN).

Low grade fever (on and off) for first 4 weeks (@ 99-100F).

5 Weeks since onset ~ 2/2/12:
Discovered 2cm lump in left breast (on the side, not near underarm area). Went to hospital, diagnosed with Pleurisy and prescribed Prednisone and different (stronger) antibiotic. Told to call back next week if lump still present. (NO history of cysts.)

2/3/12:
CBC and thyroid came back normal.

2/4/12:
Not very hungry, forcing myself to eat every 6 hours with meds. Went out today to run a few errands and felt “out of body” and hot (like nearly passing out). Chest pressure (breathing) bad today. Noticed lump easier to locate, same size and shape.

5 CONTINUAL WEEKS OF THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS:
Head congestion (normal sinus stuff since the sinus infection cleared up)

Dry cough (when trying to take deep breath); Codeine Syrup does not help

Lethargy/fatigue (can hardly get out of bed at times, beyond normal ‘tired’ just can not move body, at times so bad I thought I might wet the bed because I couldn't get my body to move -too weak-, sleeping ALOT)

Not ‘sweating’, but normally I’m always cold (like 3 blankets in the summer cold) and 5 weeks of being HOT all the time (worse at night)

Chest pressure/hard time breathing (Albuterol inhaler not working at all), feels like my chest is being squeezed ... kinda like an asthma attack that never gets better

Itching is now mild-to-moderate and CONSTANT (worse on back and chest)

Body aches appear to be mostly isolated to R-hip (severe & radiates down to knee), lower back, R/L-shoulder blades

Hi there so sorry you are feeling so ill and scared. You have come to a great site for support and opinions however we only can go by what we have exoerienced and seen before so anything I may say should be followed up with a physicians appt. to varify a diagnosis. A breast lump that doesn't go away should always be checked out, a diagnosis of a cyst would be wonderful. But at least then you would know. You talk about having a lymph node biopsy but don't tell us that you have any swollen nodes that are progressing. Keep in mind that because or your upper respiratory issues you may have lymph nodes that you can feel up on the back of your head at the base and also towards the front. They are our infection filters. The fact that you are short of breath could be from your pleurisy or from your heart. Without a physician seeing you they won't know if your lungs are filling with fluid from say congestive heart failure or if you have issues that a pulmonary MD should look at. Urgent cares are good for when you can't get in to see a specialist for this but their experience is not geared to your needs. If it were me I would go to the Pulmonary specialist, a chest x-ray would show anything filling up in the lungs. He can adjust medications for asthma and find out why you can't breath. If you are having any swelling in your lower legs or rapidly gaining weight things aren't pumping like they should and should be checked out. At any rate TODAY call and make an appt. with a specialist to get the breathing checked out. I sure hope this helped...I understand the fears of not having insurance but when it is your life you can't worry about money, that comes later. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sending hugs and prayers your way for strength.

Thanks for your reply =)

No swollen lymph nodes as far as I can tell. However all my other symptoms -put together- can be found under Lymphoma. There is one type where breast lumps are present.

My husband made me promise to call today and bump up my appmt because of my breathing issues.

Lymphoma symptoms will fit most any disease that is why it is so hard to diagnose. I would be by far concerned about the breathing problems so a pulmonologist would be your best bet. Good luck!

Absolutely call.
What are you waiting for?
Your symptoms could be many many things.
It is better to know, then to speculate.
I , also, had symptoms which took 6 monthes to DX, when in the beginning, I researched....and KNEW, that I had lymphoma, which I do...
I was prepared to deal with it mentally, as well as physically. Why be blindsided, and naive about something which can be controlled?
Please call. NOW.

Hello MTGirl,So sorry yor dealing all this.As Rascal and Geri said this could be many things. So Try and slow down a bit.I actually was in my last 30's had gotten a severe cold where one of my nodes never went down.It remained there well over a yr before I went and had it removed on my own.Funny i had the itching and fatigue and just thought it was life whatever, never put the two together. One thing that did happen after biopsy was I was losing weight and my white count was high. You can read our stories in the Who We Are thread.Everyone is different.I never liked the needle biopsy as too many false negs.,so I requested the whole node be removed.Good luck keep us posted.

Blessings,Michele Dx95 Follicular NHL3

Thank you all for your support! My husband and i were talking and we agreed that all the symptoms I'm having could be just a random bunch of stuff going on with me; but when you figure in the breast lump + the symptoms I keep coming up with lymphoma. And the lump is pronounced so I'm going to request it to be removed and I'm hoping (since I'm self-pay) I can ask them to also maybe check/test for lymphoma at the same time ... since they will be doing xrays/scans/biopsys and such anyway for the lump.
